15 Tips for Immediate Response
from Reluctant and Overburdened Members
  1. Show it's important. Tell why you're requesting their involvement specifically. Itemize skills for which they've been recognized.

  2. Give them other options, if they have to say no.

  3. Ask about next year. Then KEEP A RECORD and follow up.

  4. HIGH-TECH - Short, fast sound bytes.

  5. LOW-TECH - ASK them.

  6. Use members' preferred method of communication
    - Phone - Voice mail - Fax - E mail - Snail mail -

  7. Find out the best time of day to make contact - Shows how accommodating the assn. can be.

  8. Make it a life or career improving experience.

  9. Share outcomes.

  10. Find out who members are.
    • Get acquainted.
    • Ask questions.
    • Listen to answers.

  11. Create a sense of community; could last right through board seats.

  12. Make it fun.

  13. Electronic platform preferred . . . but NEVER at the cost of people.

  14. Mantra - Realtors - location, location, location
        Association with volunteers
        Follow up, follow up, follow up.

  15. Enhance success, prevent failure.
    Be there to support.
    Be there to step in.

  16. Include a resignation form in the orientation kit. Always leave way for an OUT with dignity.

  18. Make early assignments short and sweet.
